Human Rights First has partnered with human rights activist Angeline Jackson for over two years. Her charisma and way of telling her moving personal story is always compelling and garners the interest of all who listen. She has been instrumental in our efforts to raise awareness of the serious human rights issues facing LGBT people in Jamaica.
~HUMAN RIGHTS FIRST
As a survivor of sexual violence, motivated by my sexual orientation, I could have chosen to give up at that moment and while I was sorely tempted I pressed on. Since then, I have had the honour of using my experience to motivate and empower others especially lesbian and bisexual women.
Angeline Jackson is a passionate speaker, engaging storyteller and committed activist for the human rights of LGBT people. Angeline’s ability to embody strength, hope and leadership in the face of challenging situations and difficult odds inspires and excites audiences. At one of our events, an audience member approached me after hearing Angeline speak and exclaimed “I feel like I just met the Harvey Milk of Jamaica!” And I told her that she did – that Angeline is helping to lead a movement and inspire change today in the same way that Harvey Milk did in the United States nearly 40 years ago.
I am available to speak on a range of topics including:
- Coming out
- Global LGBT activism
- Sexual assault and violence
- Christianity, faith and spirituality
I started speaking in 2012 on LGBT rights, and have spoken on panels and workshops.
Though living in Jamaica, my speaking has taken me to across various cities in the US, Austria, and Thailand.
I am available for panels, workshops, group sessions, sensitivity training and talks on LGBT issues.
